Humour

Humour in Children's Yoga:

Meet Hugo—a preschooler in our classes. Humour is his bridge to connection, and it’s delightful.

Take this moment, for example:
As we practise, using the cards, I say, ‘Let’s make a crocodile. Now the crocodile rolls onto his back and becomes a dead ant. The dead ant is moving her legs in the air—it’s a walking dead ant!’ *

Does it make sense? Absolutely not. Everyone giggles. Hugo turns to his friend Amy, his eyes wide and repeats, “She said dead ant walking!”

Humour is a win-win, laughter becomes part of the yoga experience—a natural, happy state.

Why Humour Works
For kids, pretending to be something they’re not is hilarious. A tree morphing into a lion? A frog catching mosquitoes for breakfast? It’s all unexpected, imaginative, and fun.

The Takeaway
Children don’t connect with yoga for enlightenment—they’re already living in the moment. Children learn best through play, and when we engage humour and creativity, we encourage a love and connection to yoga.
